Planning a trip to Lombok? We have answered the questions our guests ask most, from getting here to what to expect once you arrive.

01

Getting to Lombok

There are two main options. By plane, the flight from Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Lombok International Airport (LOP) takes approximately 45 minutes and operates multiple times daily. By fast ferry, the crossing from Padangbai in Bali to Lembar in Lombok takes around 2 hours and offers beautiful sea views along the way. From Lombok International Airport, Lombok Souls is approximately a 45-minute drive north.

There are no non-stop flights from Europe or Australia directly into Lombok. Most European travellers connect via Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Singapore (SIN), or Istanbul (IST). Turkish Airlines operates a well-regarded route from Istanbul to Jakarta, which avoids Middle Eastern airspace entirely. From Australia, direct flights operate into Bali from major cities, with a short onward connection to Lombok. Total travel time from Europe is typically 18 to 22 hours including connections.

The main airport is Lombok International Airport (LOP), also known as Bandara Internasional Lombok, located in Praya in the south of the island. It is approximately 45 minutes by car from Lombok Souls. The airport handles domestic flights from Bali and Jakarta as well as some international connections. We can arrange a private transfer from the airport upon request.

Lombok Souls sits in the Senggigi area of north Lombok, which puts the Gili Islands unusually close. Bangsal port, the main departure point for Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno, is just 10 minutes by car from the resort. A day trip to the Gilis is one of the most popular choices among our guests.

02

Is Lombok safe?

Yes. Lombok is considered a safe destination for international travellers. The island has a well-established tourism infrastructure, a welcoming local culture, and no significant security concerns. As with any travel destination, standard precautions apply: keep belongings secure, respect local customs, and check your government's travel advisory before departure. Indonesia as a whole remains one of Southeast Asia's most visited and well-regarded destinations.

Indonesia is a stable democratic country and one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia. Geographically, it sits far from active conflict zones in the Middle East or Eastern Europe, making it a reassuring choice for travellers concerned about regional instability. The tourism regions of Lombok and Bali operate entirely independently of any political tensions, and international visitor numbers have grown consistently year on year.

Lombok is an excellent destination for solo travellers. The island is quieter and less crowded than its neighbour, which many solo visitors find more comfortable and easier to navigate. At Lombok Souls, the resort layout balances private villa spaces with open social areas including the pool bar, rooftop, and restaurant. It is easy to connect with other guests or enjoy complete solitude, depending on your mood.

03

Lombok vs Bali

The two islands are neighbours, separated by just 35 kilometres, but they offer very different experiences. Bali is more developed and internationally known, with a large and established tourist infrastructure. Lombok is less crowded, less commercialised, and more naturally raw: pristine beaches, Mount Rinjani (Indonesia's second-highest volcano), and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried. Lombok is increasingly chosen by travellers who want the beauty of the region without the tourism fatigue.

For couples seeking privacy, romance, and a slower pace, Lombok offers something harder to find elsewhere: genuine quietness. Beaches without crowds, sunsets without queues, and resorts where you are not one of hundreds of guests. At Lombok Souls, each villa is private by design within a boutique property of only 35 villas. Add the spa, the rooftop, and five minutes to a beach where sea turtles swim, and the case for Lombok makes itself.

Several factors are driving Lombok's rise. Traveller fatigue with over-tourism is real, and Lombok offers the same natural beauty, volcanic landscapes, coral reefs, and rice terraces, without the congestion. Flight connections have improved significantly. A new generation of boutique properties has raised the standard of luxury accommodation on the island. Lombok still feels like a discovery. That window will not stay open indefinitely.

About Lombok Souls

Lombok Souls is a boutique resort of 35 private villas in the Senggigi area of north Lombok. Each villa is inspired by one of the natural elements: Fire, Water, and Earth. The architecture blends local materials with sustainable design throughout. The resort combines the privacy of a villa stay with the full facilities of a service property, including a restaurant, spa, gym, pool bar, rooftop, and Funworking Zone.

Yes. Lombok Souls was designed with flexibility in mind. The resort features a Funworking Zone, a dedicated social and working area, alongside strong WiFi connectivity throughout the property. The pace of life in Lombok suits remote work well: productive mornings, afternoons spent exploring, evenings at the rooftop or restaurant. Long-stay guests receive preferential rates. Contact us directly to discuss arrangements for your dates.

The location is exceptional for activity. Nipah Beach, one of the best snorkelling spots on the island where sea turtles are regularly spotted, is 5 minutes away. The Gili Islands depart from Bangsal port, 10 minutes from the resort. Lombok also offers world-class surfing in the south, Mount Rinjani trekking, diving, waterfall hikes, and traditional Sasak village visits. This is not a destination for those who want nothing to do. It is for those who want to choose.

Lombok's dry season runs from May to October, with July and August as peak months. This is the best period for outdoor activities, trekking Rinjani, and favourable sea conditions around the Gili Islands. The shoulder months of May, June, and September offer good weather with fewer visitors and slightly better rates. The wet season from November to April brings heavier rainfall but also lush green landscapes and a quieter, more intimate atmosphere across the resort.

Yes. The restaurant at Lombok Souls serves international fusion cuisine built on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, combining regional Indonesian flavours with European culinary technique. Non-guests are welcome. We recommend contacting us in advance, particularly during high season, to confirm availability for your preferred date and time.

Practical information

Most European and Australian passport holders can enter Indonesia under the Visa on Arrival (VOA) scheme, available at major entry points including Lombok International Airport. The VOA allows a stay of up to 30 days, extendable once for an additional 30 days. Fees apply and are payable by card or cash at the airport. We recommend confirming your country's specific requirements with Indonesia's official immigration authority before travel.

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Lombok Souls accepts major credit and debit cards for villa payments. For local markets, transport, and smaller vendors across the island, cash is still widely preferred. ATMs are available in Senggigi and Mataram. We advise travelling with a card that has low foreign transaction fees and keeping some Rupiah on hand for day-to-day purchases outside the resort.
